The gatherings people build a year around. A rodeo on New Year's Day in a valley town, a festival on a hill, a show, a pub, a procession, a game. Not the news, but the thing that is still there when the news has moved on: how a place meets itself, what it wears to do it, who turns up and who stands at the back.
This is a thread rather than a story, and it will keep growing. The Snowy Valleys are here first, with the Tumbarumba rodeo, and the festivals and the street will join it as the work does. The rule for what belongs is simple: it has to be something people do together because they always have, in a place that would be poorer without it.
